Biography
Award-winning violinist Chi-Yin Chen is an avid orchestral musician, performing with diverse ensembles in the US, her native Taiwan, and beyond. In recent seasons, she has served as Concertmaster of the Baltimore Concerto Orchestra, Fourth Chair First Violin of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, Violinist of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, Guest Musicians of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, and Assistant Principal Violin of the Peabody Symphony Orchestra, where she earned her Master of Music degree. She is also the Assistant Concertmaster of the Occasional Symphony in Baltimore, with whom she performs innovative programs in unconventional venues. In the summer of 2013, as a fellowship recipient at the Aspen Music Festival, she performed with other leading young musicians from across the globe as a member of the prestigious Aspen Festival Orchestra.
In Taiwan, Ms. Chen has performed with the National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, Taipei Symphony Orchestra, Taiwan Pro Arte Orchestra and served as Concertmaster for the Youth Summer Orchestra of the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra. In Europe, she has appeared at the Young Euro Classic Festival in Berlin.
Along with being an expert section leader and member, Ms. Chen is often asked to step to the front of the stage as a soloist. She has performed as a soloist in the Carmen Trio at the “Taiwan Night” Concert in Maryland and in Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with the Philharmonia Moment Musical in Johannesburg, South Africa. In Taiwan, she has soloed with the National Taiwan Normal University New Music Ensemble and the Aikuang Sun Youth Orchestra. She has won prizes as both a soloist and chamber musician in the Taipei Music Competition and the National Taiwan Music Competition.
During her graduate studies at the Peabody Conservatory, Ms. Chen was guided by renowned violinist Herbert Greenberg. Previously, she earned her Bachelor of Music degree from National Taiwan Normal University, where she was mentored by Yi-Tzao Wang.
In Taiwan, Ms. Chen has performed with the National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, Taipei Symphony Orchestra, Taiwan Pro Arte Orchestra and served as Concertmaster for the Youth Summer Orchestra of the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra.
